Shoppers can also enjoy a live modern art show displayed in the windows of the world's most famous store – courtesy of students from London's Camberwell College of Arts.
Eleven young artists have been tasked with creating a giant artwork inspired by the purple Ford Fiesta, and will spend a month showing off their creative talents.
The youthful team behind the glass is out to reflect the qualities that make the 2006 Ford Fiesta one of Britain's most appealing cars – passion, boldness, style and individuality.
Working in teams on an alternative Ford ‘production line’, they will be hand-painting miniature plaster models of the Fiesta, which will be sent by conveyor belt via a central window to a third display space, where they will fit into a grid to create the artwork itself.
This giant image will change constantly, but its evolution will be preserved and displayed through time-lapse pictures on a video screen. There will always be something new for window-shoppers to enjoy – and they can participate, too, by phoning the artists to suggest directions in which the artwork might go, using a number displayed in the window.
"This idea is a great way to reflect the vitality and freshness of the new 2006 Ford Fiesta," said Steve Hood, Ford of Britain's marketing director. "Fiesta is Britain's favourite small car and the latest version has very contemporary styling inside and out. Its now available with a whole set of interesting colour choices and lots of new-technology options, including satellite navigation and voice control.
"The Harrods idea was a fantastic opportunity to present the re-energised Fiesta alongside a youthful, creative team of people – and we think it provides a great opportunity for the students to show what they can do," he added.
The Camberwell students can be seen at Harrods from 28 December to 28 January.
